Count Day

In Michigan, Count Day is one of the most important days of the school year. On this day, schools across the state record student attendance. The number of students present directly impacts the amount of state funding our school receives. In short: when your child is in class on Count Day, it helps ensure our school has the resources needed to support all students.

Why It’s Important:

Michigan schools receive state funding based on student attendance counts.

A large percentage of our funding is tied to how many students are present on Count Day.

Every student counts — literally! Each child’s attendance helps provide teachers, programs, and services for our school community.

What Families Should Know:

  • Attendance Matters Most: Please make sure your child is in school and on time on Count Day.

  • Stay All Day: To be counted, students must remain for the full school day (not just check in and leave).

  • If Your Child is Sick: Don’t worry—absences due to illness or emergencies can be verified and counted later if properly documented. Please call the office right away if your child cannot attend.

  • Future Count Days: Michigan has two Count Days each year—one in October and another in February. Both are equally important for funding.

Your partnership makes a big difference. By ensuring strong attendance on Count Day, you help secure vital funding for our school so we can continue to provide the best education and opportunities for your child and all our students.
