Before our seniors took the big walk across the stage 🎓, our preschool (GSRP) students celebrated their graduation! With their tiny caps, these little learners are officially kindergarten-bound!
Amazing work, graduates!

Tonight, prior to our Board of Education meeting, we had the privilege of recognizing Teresa Heide, Stephen Crozier, Ed Domke, and Nancy Medeiros, who will all be retiring at the end of this school year.
We are deeply grateful for their years of faithful service, dedication, and commitment to our district and community. Their impact will be felt for years to come, and we wish each of them all the best in this next chapter.

Leadership, service, and a positive attitude are just a few of the qualities our Young Citizenship Award recipients have demonstrated over the last month. Congratulations to the students honored by the Hastings Kiwanis Club for their outstanding leadership during the month of April!
Third graders from across our district had the opportunity to attend Ag Awareness Day at the Barry County Fairgrounds. Agricultural professionals and businesses provided presentations, while some of our high school FFA members brought animals and helped guide students through each station. It was a great opportunity for students to learn about the many facets of an industry that is so important to our county!
Fifth graders are in the house at Hastings Middle School this morning, checking out their new digs for next year! Thanks to the staff and students for being so kind and accommodating to our future middle schoolers!
If you catch the smell of something delicious around our elementary schools over the next week, it’s just Mr. Moore and his team grilling up amazing 🌭meals🌭 for our spring cookouts!
Central Elementary kicked things off today, enjoying a wonderful meal and special time together with parents and families. We’re grateful for the staff and volunteers who make these events so memorable for our students and community!

On National School Principals' Day, we want to take a second to honor our district's six principals and a bonus rockstar of an assistant principal.
These are leaders who show up every day with patience, encouragement, and dedication for their students and staff. Thank you for all the time, care, and heart you put into making your schools better places to learn and grow.

Join us this evening in the Hastings Middle School Commons for a community forum focused on our district’s facility and infrastructure needs. The session will be led by consultants from GMB, and we encourage all community members to attend and share their input.
Following the forum, the school board will convene for its regularly scheduled meeting.

Mr. Bagley has launched an exciting new unit in physical education at both Star and Northeastern Elementary!
This week, fourth- and fifth-grade students are beginning their journey into archery, learning everything from proper form and identifying the parts of a bow to practicing essential range safety.
This program, developed by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), was made possible through a grant from the Michigan DNR along with generous support from the Star and Northeastern PTOs. Students are already gaining new skills and having a great time!

Spring Break looked a little different for our tech department. Throughout the week, our tech department didn’t slow down. From closing out tickets and repairing devices to updating computers and refreshing inventory across the district, the team kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
And of course, they found a way to keep it fun. Rocking their shades and sipping on ice-cold Shirley Temples, the team brought a little Spring Break spirit to the workday. 😎
Awesome work, team!

We have another group of VERY deserving students who were given the Young Citizenship Award by the Hastings Kiwanis Club for the month of March. Great job, everyone!

We'll see you on Monday!

Saxons have each other’s backs! 💙
In anticipation of state testing (i.e. M-STEP, PSAT, etc.), students of all ages across our district took time to write letters of encouragement to one another. Every student will receive uplifting words from a fellow Saxon, reminding them they are supported and ready to succeed.
Good luck...you’ve got this!

Star Elementary was glowing green yesterday for 🍀St. Patrick’s Day🍀! From festive outfits to creative leprechaun traps, the halls were full of laughter and school spirit.

It’s always special when our older students have the opportunity to give back and support younger learners. This semester, 8th graders in Mr. Renner’s Innovation and Design class took on the exciting project of building 3D printers.
Jackson, Davis, Karter and Kenna assembled the printers from kits, calibrating them, troubleshooting issues, and learning how all of the mechanical and electronic components come together. And the best part is that these printers will be given to our elementary schools here in Hastings.
This project was made possible through the generosity of the Guido A. and Elizabeth H. Binda Foundation, which provided funding through the 2025–26 CISD Mini Grant Program. Hastings Area School System received four mini grants, which helped purchase the Prusa CORE One+ kits used in the project.
A big thank you to William Renner, Jessica Fleis, Julie Carlson, and Elizabeth Macklin for their work in securing these grants and helping make this opportunity possible for our students.

Students at Star Elementary kicked off March is Reading Month with a ROAR ... literally! On Monday, they held their ROAR and READ assembly to get ready for a month filled with stories, imagination, and LOTS of reading! We can't wait to see what books our readers discover along the way.
