We’re excited about the strong interest in our free preschool program, the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)!
The State of Michigan is currently developing a new online registration system for GSRP. As soon as the new system is in place, we will begin accepting registrations for preschool students at Hastings Area School System. We will share an announcement immediately once registration opens, along with step-by-step instructions on how to enroll.
Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm as you prepare to begin your child’s learning journey with us. We can’t wait to welcome our youngest learners to Hastings Area Schools for the 2026-27 year!

Please remember there will be no school on Friday, February 20, and Monday, February 23 for mid-winter break.

We’re proud to recognize the Hastings Kiwanis Club Young Citizenship Award recipients for the month of January!
These outstanding students lead by example in their schools, demonstrating character, leadership and a commitment to making a positive difference. We celebrate their achievements and the impact they have on those around them.
Great job!

Our district is finally starting to thaw, and we hope you’re enjoying the sunshine and more manageable temperatures! But this is Michigan — and we all know winter isn’t finished with us just yet.
Now’s a great time to review our weather cancellation policies and procedures so you know exactly what to expect in the event of a school cancellation or two-hour delay. Being informed helps everyone plan ahead with confidence.

The Hastings Area School System's Board of Education will be meeting tomorrow night for its regularly-scheduled monthly meeting.

Wow! Everyone who organized and participated in last week’s WinterFest truly showed up in a big way. Not only did we have an incredible time, but together we raised an amazing $9,284.54 for the Lucas family to help Nolan get a diabetes service dog.
That’s huge and just another example of our school community supporting one another.
Thank you SO much to everyone who helped make this year’s WinterFest such a success!

Many of our elementary students helped us celebrate a big milestone across Hastings Area Schools: the 100th day of school!
They came to school with some fun and creative outfits. What a fun way to mark 100 days of learning!

Due to poor weather, driving conditions and the existing winter weather advisory that will extend through the day, HASS is closed for Friday, February 6.

Mark your calendars for preschool registration!

What a special treat for our lower elementary students, who were joined by fellow students from Delton Kellogg School District!
Members of the Grand Rapids Symphony and Grand Rapids Ballet brought a LolliPops performance to the stage at the Hastings Performing Arts Center, creating a learning experience through music and movement.
By blending The Emperor’s New Clothes and The Ugly Duckling, the performance introduced students to the magic of storytelling while also teaching them about music and the structure of an orchestra.
This opportunity was made possible by the generosity of the Douglas A. and Margaret E. DeCamp Foundation. We are grateful for partners who help our students develop a passion for the arts!

We’ve received some questions about whether school breakfast and lunch are free in 2026. After some initial uncertainty during the state budget talks in the fall, free meals for students did remain in place. 🍎🥪
